Artist Statement

My paintings begin in reality and end in imagination.  Whether I am painting a realistic or abstract landscape or seascape, my goal is to express a mood or feeling, often a sense of peace or repose.  My process feels like an archaeological dig; it is as much about the removal of paint as it is about its application.  I aspire to reduce each painting to its essential truth.

I want the viewer to be drawn into the painting as an experience.  The mystery and ambiguity of the work invite the viewer to create his/her own reality or remembrance.
